My name is Ernest O'Dell and I started completely broke working out of the public library in Blanco, Texas, just north of San Antonio, while working 3 part-time jobs. I made enough money in less than one month to buy my own computer and get internet service in a house that I was renting with a friend, and struggled to pay rent on time each month.

I struggled for years trying to figure out how to earn a living on the internet, and failed more often than I succeeded. I finally picked up my belongings, and my old dog, stored all my furniture in a storage unit, then moved back to Lubbock, Texas where I would have more dependable internet service.

I knew I had to do something soon because nobody was hiring "old dudes" anymore, and the contract programming jobs were slowing down. Besides, I was getting tired of bouncing all over the world on programming gigs, and wanted to settle down and have a bit more stability in my life.

In 1999, I signed up with a company that is still in business today, but I didn't really know how to market it to the rest of the world. I tried one marketing system after another, and managed to keep it going by working each lead manually. Each person that signed on with me worked closely with me, and we all collaborated together to find a marketing system that would help streamline the process.

Finally, almost 10 years later, I happened upon a couple of systems that would do the marketing for me, and help streamline the distribution of emails, but they were cost prohibitive... in other words, they were expensive!

I found a company out of Houston, Texas (USA) that had a great little autoresponder system that worked well, but it wasn't "user friendly", even for seasoned programmers.

Back to the drawing board: this brought me back to "square one" and looking for something that was easy to duplicate.

Here's the problem: most of the people you see on the internet who are looking for a home based business opportunity are NOT programmers. They're moms and dads, and single people, and they're looking for something simple and easy... something that can be replicated and duplicated by every day people. They didn't want to "jump through hoops" and have to go through a big learning curve just to make a living online.

I found 3 other marketing systems that varied in price, and had different capabilities and features, but I found a lot of people were still resisting the fact they still needed to invest in a "system" to make money. Not only did they need to invest in a system, but they also needed to learn how to use it.

Let's face it: whether you're studying to become a brain surgeon, a rocket scientist, a mechanic, a plumber, or an electrician, there's still a certain amount of time you need to take to become proficient with your "tools" of the trade.

I found 3 systems that were low cost, and had different levels of learning the "curve" to use those tools, and pretty much left it up to my team members to use what they wanted to use, and what they felt most comfortable using.

REMEMBER: each person has to find what "fits" them the best, and what fits me or someone else, might not be a good fit for you.

Right?

Well, in 2009, just a mere 10 years after I started working this online company, I narrowed my marketing systems down to 3 or 4 choices. They all offered a "back end" affiliate product where you could earn an extra commission on your sales, and that, coupled with the passive income I was making with my primary business, it all became affordable.

Now, another 10 years later, in 2019... February, as a matter of fact, I tested these 4 systems...

...then I found a fifth system.

This "fifth" system didn't have a "back end" affiliate program, but it was extremely easy to use, and I got to know the owners of each system and got them to work with me on making some of their designs easy for "newbies".

I know... I hate the term "newbies" too. We were all newbies at one time or another, and none of us were born a pro, and even less were born a "guru" (another term I hate).

Okay, now I'm at the point where I need to find something to use for my marketing system that will give me the flexibility to learn it and use it without it overwhelming me, and overwhelming my team members. I managed to learn one system in less than 7 days because they gave me a 7 day free trial before they tapped my card.

Okay... not bad...

The other system I tested gave me a 14 day free trial, and didn't even ask for a credit card!

Okay... even better!

The "other" systems I tested and used were okay... "so-so"... and I narrowed it down to the 7 day trial system because they had some great upsells with their affiliate program, and had everything built into it so that I could literally "start from scratch" and even a "newbie" could learn it and use it. Coupled together with my primary system, the two fit perfectly. What's even better than the 7 day trial system is the FREE system that they offered FOR LIFE!

Yes, it's true. They offered a Free Lead System Forever, but there was only one hitch: every other lead that signed up would be passed up to their sponsor... the person you signed up under.

Well, they fixed that with a ONE TIME ("once off") system with their Lead Lightning program. It had a one time cost of only $7, and when you resold it, you could make a $6 commission from it.

Okay... now it's getting a little better... HOWEVER, it's only a "once off" commission. Where is the "residual" (or "passive") income?

Over the years, I've used several different marketing systems and have narrowed them down to the above named three systems, PLS being my primary toolbox.

One thing that I have learned over the years is to keep my business simple and easy to duplicate for newbies. I found that if I get too many "tools" in my toolbox, I end up with too many alternatives, and that can become counterproductive--not only for me, but also for my team members.
